Breather filter LR88/109 SIII up to 1980 approx.
The engine breather, also known as the crankcase ventilation system, is an important component on Land Rover Series 3 88 and 109 diesel engines. It allows blow-by gases from the engine to be safely vented from the crankcase, helping maintain correct internal pressure.
By controlling crankcase pressure, the breather helps reduce oil leaks, protect engine seals and extend overall engine life. It is typically fitted on or around the rocker cover depending on the specific 2.25 diesel engine configuration.
Over time, the breather system can become clogged or less efficient, leading to increased internal pressure, oil seepage or poor engine ventilation. A faulty breather can also contribute to higher oil consumption.
Replacing the breather restores proper engine ventilation and helps maintain the reliability of classic Land Rover diesel engines used in both road and off-road conditions.
