THERMOSTAT - 82 DEGREES - Suitable for Defender 1983-2006, Series 3
The 82°C thermostat is a key component of the cooling system for Land Rover Defender 90, 110 and 130 models fitted with 2.5 Diesel, 2.5 Turbo Diesel or carburettor V8 engines, as well as compatible Land Rover Series 3 vehicles.
Its purpose is to regulate coolant flow between the engine and radiator. When the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed to allow rapid warm-up. Once the coolant reaches approximately 82°C, it gradually opens to maintain proper engine temperature.
Maintaining the correct operating temperature is essential for engine efficiency, reduced mechanical wear and optimal fuel consumption.
Over time, thermostats can become stuck open or closed. A faulty thermostat may lead to engine overheating, slow warm-up times or reduced heater performance.
Replacing the thermostat restores proper cooling system operation and helps ensure stable engine temperatures under all driving conditions.
