TF978 can be fitted to Defenders with original or aftermarket side windows as long as they are similar dimensions to original side windows, Defenders with TF979 flip up alloy windows as well as Defenders without side windows. Pull each of the plunger catches and open the shelf, with an assistant offer the shelf to the side of the car and position the mounting brackets with the holes 80mm up from the bottom edge of the body side panel and with each bracket equally spaced either side of the side window or from the front and rear edge of the body side. Mark each hole on the body side, remove the shelf and check your hole centres are equal and square. Included in the kit are threaded inserts and a selection of mounting nuts and bolts, decide if you want to remove any interior trim to access the fixings from the inside or use the threaded insert. If you are fitting the fold down shelf to a 110 station wagon you will need to drill through the seat belt mounting bracket and use the nuts and bolts provided. Remove the 4 saddle brackets from the shelf and loosely bolt them to the body side, reattach the shelf to the saddle brackets and nip the bolts through the holes in the shelf brackets. Gently close and open the shelf, make any adjustments to the brackets before fully tightening, there is further adjustment between the shelf plate and the mounting brackets if required.
